Toucan Trail Compressor
Tiko's tiny message pouch cannot hold the long parade trail! Build a program that packs repeated pictures into count-and-picture tiles.
π§ Before we start
At the Reef Lab, you protected a message while it traveled. Now make a message smaller first. Run-length compression finds matching neighbors and stores their count with just one picture. The same message takes fewer tiles.
Arrange the compressor
Tap four visual instruction blocks in the order the toucan should use them.
Pack two jungle trails
Look at the next matching group. Tap the tiny tile that stores its count and picture.
Unpack a tiny message
Each tile says how many pictures to open. Choose the trail hidden inside this message.
Debug the wrong count
The unpacked trail grew an extra banana. Compare the original and packed message, then repair the bad tile.
π What you learned
- Compression stores the same information using less space.
- Run-length compression groups matching neighbors.
- Each tiny tile keeps a count and one copy of the picture.
- Decompression repeats each picture by its saved count.
- A wrong count changes the message, so testing by unpacking helps find bugs.
